If you’re like me, you don’t clean your makeup brushes as often as you really should (or you don’t at all… eep!). How often should you wash your brushes? Dermatologists recommend soaking your tools at least once a week to prevent product buildup. What happens if you don’t clean your brushes? Dirty makeup brushes can start to build up bacteria and viruses, can cause your skin to breakout, can damage your brushes, and the (gross) list goes on. Moral of the story: CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES.
Here’s how to clean your brushes correctly.
Step 1: Wet the bristles with lukewarm water
Step 2: Place a drop of makeup brush cleanser, soap, or baby shampoo into the palm of your hand
Step 3: Gently massage the tips of the bristles in your palm.
Step 4: Rinse the bristles until all of the soap has been rinsed out.
Step 5: Carefully squeeze out the excess water with a clean and lint-free towel.
Step 6: Reshape the brush head to its original shape.
Step 7: Let the brush dry with the bristles hanging off the edge of a counter. (Never let your brushes dry on a towel because the bristles can mildew.
And there you have it! Your makeup brushes will be as clean as a whistle. Don’t forget to repeat these steps AT LEAST once a week!
