How to Make New Year’s Resolutions- And Keep Them!

The New Year is quickly nearing, and with the holiday season already upon us, many people are already reflecting and reevaluating some of their life choices over the past year. Setting New Year’s resolutions are a great way to start the new year with a positive outlook and some new goals for a happier and better you.

While we all would like to keep our resolutions, research shows that only 8% of people actually achieve them. Discouraging? Yes. Surprising? No. Here’s a few of the major factors that contribute to why people have such a hard time sticking to their New Year’s resolutions:

• You’re not receiving outside support
• Your goals are too lofty and unrealistic
• You make no plan
• You give up too easily
• You aren’t measuring your progress
• You aren’t rewarding yourself along the way
• You’re not persistent and consistent
• Your goals are not specific enough

These issues are all very addressable. Keeping your resolutions this year is far from impossible. With determination and a positive outlook, you can do it all. If you’re having trouble coming up with your resolutions, here are a few examples of some great resolutions:

• Read more books
• Learn something new every day
• Be more grateful
• Spend more time in nature
• Hold a plank every day
• Travel more
• Write in a journal at least once a week
• Volunteer more
• Quit smoking
• Get 10,000 steps in everyday
• Take a class or a workshop
• Memorize a poem you love
• Have lunch with someone once a week
• Drink 8 glasses of water a day
• Get 8 hours of sleep a night
• Clean out your closet
• Set aside time to meditate
• Move more and sit less
• Prioritize breakfast
• Do a little act of kindness daily
• Wear sunscreen every day

Good luck with your New Year’s resolutions this year! And we wish you a happy, healthy, and successful New Year!
